Monday Morning Dreaming

While the rain fell across the Bega Valley this morning, Graeme created this masterpiece of Uluru as part of Tulgeen’s Art in the Garage activity.

Through Art in the Garage, artists with a disability are free to dream and create in a creative, nurturing environment.

Congratulations Graeme, we love ‘Monday Morning Dreaming’.

Up up and away!

John had the BEST time on a recent scenic flight around Merimbula. Supported by Sharon, John had a birds eye view of the pristine Sapphire Coast.

They were having a great time right up until turbulence hit when they were just on the fringes of the Snowy Mountains. At the pilots’ suggestion they returned back to Merimbula.

John and Sharon then went for a walk on the boardwalk and enjoyed some lunch before heading home.

John and Sharon have been on a high ever since. 🛩️ BEST DAY EVER!

We are so happy it is BBQ weather again!

We just love to get together at Tulgeen. Check out these photos from our weekend BBQ at Maple Court.

Doesn’t Craig look happy as the ‘Holder of Tongs’?! And don’t you think Jeffery looks dapper in his hat?

We had a great time.

Tulgeen enables clients with disability to live, work, play and grow.

Another good news story about Tulgeen and work placement.

Tulgeen Client, Krystal is enjoying her work placement at Platypus Pet Shop in Pambula. When Pet Shop owners Daryl and Donna brought in their pet Bearded Dragon, Krystal and support worker Chris B were both quite taken with the creature.

In her work placement Krystal has many responsibilities and works independently.  Some of Krystal’s tasks include weighing and bagging pet food, such as bird seed, rabbit and guinea pig food.

It’s easy to tell from Krystal’s big smile that she very much enjoys her work at the Platypus Pet Shop.

Krystal and her family have also recently rescued a lamb from a neighbour’s farm.  Sadly, “Lucky” the lamb’s mother and sibling passed away, so Krystal is on bottle feeding duty while the lamb is in their care.

Footy Colours Day at Tulgeen

We had a marvellous day on Friday for ‘Footy Colours Day

Tulgeen staff and clients wore their favourite team’s colours and shared a footy-style lunch of a sausage sizzle and meat pies. We had a happy and fun day AND raised much needed funds for cancer research.

On this day, we especially remembered a dear friend Danny who we lost a year ago. We think he would have approved of the celebration!

WIRES and Tulgeen

Tulgeen Client, Ryan is working towards completing his TAFE Certificate II in Animal Studies, and recently completed the Rescue and Immediate Care Course with WIRES.

On Saturday, the WIRES call went out to the volunteers – “Immediate Rescue is needed for Satin Bowerbird at Wallaga Lake (hit wall, concussed, beak injury)”.  Ryan was contacted, and he and his brother Lachlan, drove out to the site.

Relying on Ryan’s recently learned skills, the pair rescued the bird, and safely delivered it to the Grand Hotel in Bega, where WIRES members were holding their AGM. The little bird was contained in a towel-covered rescue basket under the pool table, and the bird was kept quiet and warm during the meeting before being taken to a member’s house for further care.

Congratulations, Ryan for successfully carrying out your first WIRES rescue!

It has now been over a year since the roll out of the NDIS in our region.

The team is available to run information sessions for participants, meet with local providers and members of the community.

Tulgeen’s War on Waste

Tulgeen’s Riverside Nursery will not be using single use plastic bags from 1st September 2017.

As an option, Tulgeen’s Stitches and Prints have made some reusable carry bags for customer convenience.

Stitches and Prints client, Jenny took great delight in delivering the first batch to Tim at the nursery.

Well done Jenny, the bags look great.

Make sure you visit the Nursery to get great products and advice to make your garden sing this Spring 🙂🌸
