Transport Initiative by State Government needs your input

Dear All,

This is an initiative from the State Government Local Member Andrew Constance, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure called Point 2 Point transport. Point 2 Point will be trialed in the Bega Valley as a local initiative and if successful will be rolled out across New South Wales. Point 2 Point initiative aims to increase transport options for people with disability, Aged and infirm by bringing together local community resources to overcome lack in public transport.

The Stage Government will support local community to develop Point 2 Point solutions for people e.g. we may be able to provide increased bus trips between towns and in or around the bigger towns so we need to get current information where people need to travel to and from their homes in their local town or between them so that with the State Government with support from local Government and the community we can develop local solutions.

We urge everyone to complete the survey attached or via this link:

We want your families and friends or anyone you know with a disability to please compete and forward around to everyone they know. Please forward this email to community services that you are working with.

Tulgeen and Yumaro Collaboration

Tulgeen Disability Services and Yumaro are pleased to announce the joint collaboration of our respective organisations to develop and grow opportunities across the Eurobodalla-Shoalhaven region and the Bega Valley Shire.  There are many similarities that connect our organisations including our individual missions to support people with disability to have and maintain full and abundant lives.

Yumaro offers meaningful employment across their ADE’s in Moruya and the Shoalhaven, and more recently growing and developing their community participation and in home support services.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed between our agencies with the aim to foster and develop our relationship to facilitate collaboration on projects and to foster trust and open dialogue in this now competitive NDIS market place.  Both agencies expect to maximize efficiencies including direct referrals, business opportunities with possible joint ventures, purchase power, research and development of systems and processes, training for staff and supported employees, and continued growth and development of in home supports, respite and community inclusion.

Tulgeen looks to the future with great anticipation, working with and alongside all agencies in a collaborative manner that benefits NDIS participants, their families and our local communities.

On 6 January, Tulgeen clients from INSYNC@merimbula had the opportunity to visit the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s tall ship Tenacious which was docked at local port Eden.  Facilitated by former Australian Disability Commissioner Graeme Innes who is participating as a sailor on the tall ship’s journey as it sails from Sydney across Bass Strait via ports along the way.  Tenacious is a tall ship belonging to the Jubilee Sailing Trust.  Whilst the parent organisation is UK-based, the JST have established an Australian presence – JST Australia.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust is an international, United Nations accredited disability charity, promoting integration through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing.  The JST takes men and women of all abilities to sea, to not only teach them how to crew a tall ship, but to promote equality, sharing and to celebrate our individual differences by working together to achieve greater things.

Supported by three supported workers, some Tulgeen clients got a lifetime opportunity to visit the Tenacious as it berthed in Eden and were show the decks and ropes by Graeme Innes.  The Tulgeen visitors got a chance to meet Captain Barbara Campbell and world champion sailor, Kylie Forth, an amputee and blind.  Graeme Innes who is blind explained how the talking compass allowed  him to steer the ship.

Such an inspiration for people with disability to see other people with disability role modelling an extraordinary life.

The JST is offering Australians of all abilities sailing adventures in 2017.  For more information click here.
